The Comeback, Again

August 31st, 2010 by Dan S

Two months before his 41st birthday, Brett Favre is back. Back again. Favre joined his Vikings’ teammates in practice after weeks of speculation: Will the NFL leading quarterback in almost every significant passing category and the one with the most wins in history make a try for another title?

“I owe it to this organization to give it one more try”, Favre explained casually after it was announced that the legendary number 4 will be playing some more Football in Minnesota, trying to win the trophy he was so close to last season. Favre has won only one Superbowl in his long career (1997, with Green Bay), and his intercepted pass, in the last minutes of the NFC championship game against New Orleans, sent the teams to overtime where the Saints won and went on to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy. Two is the loneliest number?

August 23rd, 2010 by Dan S

It’s the end of August, and the football season in most regions has kicked-off at breakneck pace. The few European leagues yet to get under way will be deep in action within a few days.

After the French league, the Premier League and the Bundesliga, it’s the time to raise the curtain on the last two major leagues: Serie A and La Liga, and with all due respect to Inter and their 258 consecutive titles, we are here to focus on the Spanish league. Meanwhile, you can check our European top leagues markets right here. Read More »

Selection Problems

August 22nd, 2010 by admin

As we count down to the FIBA Basketball World Championships being held in Turkey later this month, the matter causing the most confusion at present is precisely who will play point guard for team USA? It’s not like the country with the most successful league in the world are short of options, but ask anyone who’s ever tried to create a dream team, in any sport, too much choice usually equals a headache for the selector!

Team USA national director Jerry Colangelo has until August 26 to trim the roster to its final 12 players. Those 12 players will represent the U.S. in the country’s first major international basketball tournament since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in which the USA won (an expected) gold medal.

Josh Hamilton and His Intimidating .359 Batting Average

August 19th, 2010 by Lukas B

Last year the Texas Rangers saw their recent multi-million dollar acquisition, Josh Hamilton, sit on the bench with an abdominal tear. This injury left Hamilton anxious to prove himself in 2010. Today Hamilton is leading both the American and the National League with an astounding .359 batting average.

Josh Hamilton’s skill is largely unmatched in MLB today and his drive to succeed is also unparalleled. So far, Hamilton has carried his club to win more games than any other team in all of baseball. And to think that just last year pundits were dogging him and questioning his ability to reel back from his injury…

No Longer Mickey Mouse

The season may have only just started but the League Cup is already underway and we are nearing the point at which the top clubs play their part – which is where the major action begins. The second round serves up some interesting fixtures such as Accrington Stanley vs Newcastle United, Southampton vs Bolton Wanderers and Fulham vs Port Vale. Leeds United’s 4-0 drubbing of Lincoln City has earned them another home tie, against Leicester City and the reward for Oxford United thumping Bristol Rovers is a trip to Upton Park to face the mighty West Ham.

Current Carling Cup holders Manchester United went some way to restoring the prestige of the competition last year, and some credit for that must also be given to Leeds United. One of football’s most decorated managers, Sir Alex Ferguson announced, as he had in the past, that he’d be using second string players throughout the Carling Cup. Read More »

600 Homeruns… and Counting

August 12th, 2010 by Lukas B

The New York Yankees are the most successful sports franchise to date. They have produced some of baseball’s most revered players and have had a virtual monopoly over hall of fame players since their inception. Well, get ready to add another all time great player to that list, Alex Rodriguez.

Rodriguez became the seventh slugger to reach 600 home runs and now he is only 10 homers away from catching Sammy Sossa’s mark for sixth place on the all time home run list. At 35, A-Rod is the youngest player to hit 600 home runs, comparable to only Babe Ruth, who reached his 600 at 36.

There is a dash of controversy however surrounding the New York native. Rodriguez admitted to using steroids while playing with theTexas Rangers (2001-2003), during which time he crushed 156 home runs. Read More »

The Protagonists

So, fancy putting a fiver on Manchester City winning the Premier League title in our outright markets? Sounds interesting doesn’t it? For the first time ever, City are third in the outright table, just behind Chelsea and their local rivals United, and above both Arsenal and Liverpool, but if you bear with us for a while, we’ll explain why you should keep this fiver, to put towards some more realistic football bets on the Premier League.

It’s happened before that a team has made a successful transformation from non champions to champions: Arsenal under George Graham, Leeds, Manchester United, Blackburn, Arsenal with Arsene Wenger and Chelsea. In all these cases there were two major conditions established before: the first – the Premier League, as much as it could, had opened a window for a new team to come and take the title. The top teams were going through some changes, were less hungry, injured or hurt. For this season, 2010/11, Chelsea and Man U do have the ingredients required to win the title, but they don’t have the power to prevent a title race with more than just the two of them involved. Elle Etait Si Jolie

August 5th, 2010 by admin

The 2010/11 football season has already started in Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and many more countries, but the first major league to kick-off will be the French Ligue 1. Although secondary to the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga in terms of attraction, it has had more than its fair share of drama and excitement over the last fewyears, giving football fans everything they desire (and you everything you want in terms of football betting).

It wasn’t like that for over half a decade, when Lyon controlled the league, winning a record 7 championship titles on the trot. Then came Bordeaux in the 2008/09 season, shuffling the cards and leaving Lyon overwhelmed and resigned to only a 3rd place finish behind runners-up Marseille. Read More »
