Spain and Argentina to Meet in Davis Cup Final

September 22nd, 2011 by Michael B.

Spain will meet Argentina in the Davis Cup Final. The two nations last met in the 2008 final, in Argentina, which Spain won 3-1 although this tie will be played in Spain. In the semi-finals, Spain had a comfortable 4-1 win over France, while Argentina defeated defending champions Serbia 3-2. Novak Djokovic had to retire in the fifth rubber due to injury. Spain are outright favourites but don’t discount Argentina, despite the fact that on three previous occasions, they’ve never managed to beat the Spaniards.

The 7th edition of the Rugby World Cup has kicked off in New Zealand. Each of the Home Nations has played a match. England and Ireland didn’t play that well and won while Wales played an incredible game and lost. Part of that is due to Wales playing defending champions South Africa while England and Ireland defeated Argentina and the USA respectively. Scotland had a good win over Romania and despite most betting being on one of the Tri Nations to win the tournament, one of the Home Nations is still a decent outside bet. Read More »

Summer Transfer Window Closes Shut

September 11th, 2011 by Michael B.

Following the loss of Cesc Fabregas and the 8-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United, much focus was on Arsenal and how they would respond. The Gunners signed Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker, Park Chu-Young, Andre dos Santos and have borrowed Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea.  Fabregas’ sale for £35m was the second biggest transaction of the period, the first and third being Manchester City’s acquisition of Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri respectively. The other big deals involved the usual suspects – Chelsea taking Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku, Liverpool signing Stuart Downing and Jordan Henderson and Manchester United picking up David de Gea, Ashley Young and Phil Jones.
